Haier QETDZ Industrial Park

The 200-mu Haier QETDZ Industrial Park is located in the Qingdao Economic and Technological Development Zone, with a planned investment of RMB 3 billion. According to the plan, the project will be completed and put into operation by the end of 2003. Aiming at the international market, it will manufacture international leading-level products. The ultimate objective is to build the park into a household appliances export base.

Haier QETDZ Industrial Park is an important measure taken in carrying out the "Three One-third" internationalization strategy (i.e. one third of the products are manufactured and sold in China, one third are manufactured in China and sold overseas, and one third are manufactured and sold overseas). This will have the features of high-speed construction, large-scale production and high economic efficiency.

The first-phase construction which involves four project items began in early 1999 and went into operation by the end of 1999.

Presently, the park has the following project items:

-Commercial air conditioner project: To produce internationally advanced MRV intelligent freon-free central control air conditioners, with an annual production of 1 million sets.
-Special refrigerator project: To produce leading-edge large-volume network refrigerators. The first phase for an annual capability of 1 million sets has put into operation. The second phase for 2 million sets has basically finished.
-Special freezer project: To produce household and medical freon-free freezers, with an annual capacity of 1 million sets.
-Housing facility project: To use new materials and technology to produce integrated kitchen and washroom products. The first phase will have an annual production capability for 100,000 sets.
-Microwave oven and water heater project: To produce export-oriented microwave ovens and large-volume water heaters, with an annual capacity of 1.5 million microwave ovens and 1.8 million water heaters.
-Dishwasher project: To have an annual production of 300,000 export-oriented dishwashers and 1 million small appliances like gas cookers.
-Color steel plate project: To have an annual production of 50,000 tons of color steel plates for household appliances and construction projects. This project is the first of kind in China.
-Robot project: As a production base for hi-tech industrial robots, it enjoys special support from the State.
-Logistic warehousing project: To provide high-quality logistic services for the manufacturing enterprises in the park.

These projects will help bring the functions of the park into full play. In 2000, the first year after the first phase going into operation, it brought a sales income of RMB4 billion, and in 2001, it brought in RMB 6.8 billion. With the gradual completion of the second phase, it is estimated that the sales income will be RMB10 billion in 2002. At the same time, the construction of the park will contribute to the speedy and steady growth of exports. In 2000, Haier had an export income of RMB280 million and in 2001 the figure was RMB420 million, up 50% over the previous year. The advantage of the park as a comprehensive export base is gradually showing itself. The group will build the park into a new appliances production base and a comprehensive export-oriented production base. It will be a vital force in Haier's progress toward the world's top 500 goal.
