Basketball fans were surprised when they saw "Haier", the trademark of Haier Group, on the polo shirts of the Melbourne Tiger's players in the match versus the Perth Wildcats on 17th January. Haier sponsored Melbourne Tiger has been renamed Melbourne (Haier) Tiger. Reportedly, Haier is the first Chinese company to sponsor foreign sports event.On 31st January, the World Brand Lab, www.icxo.com and the World Executive Weekly issued the list of the World's 100 Most Recognizable Brands. As the only Chinese brand on the list, Haier was ranked 95th.
Haier was placed 1st of the Chinese companies at The World's Most Respected Companies Survey conducted jointly by PwC and the Financial Times.
In February, Haier accession to the World's 100 Most Recognizable Brands is a significant event in Haier history and arose wide attention. China's central government officials expressed congratulations for Haier's achievements.
During 25th and 27th February, 168 Haier products of 50 categories, including Haier network appliances and A++ products, were displayed on a 1000 square meter exhibition platform at the Home Tech 2004 International Exhibition for Household Appliances Cologne, attracting attentions of attending distributors and media.
On 3rd March, the first batch of 5,500 Haier brand laptop and desktop computers were shipped to France, symbolizing the start of Haier and many other Chinese computer producers to enter the world market.
On 12th March, a delegation led by Mr. Alain Belda, Chairman and CEO of ALCOA, visited Haier. ALCOA has a history of 100 years and now ranks 216th in the row of Fortune 500. Mr. Alain Belda expressed his good impression about Haier and said, "Haier's marketing philosophy and innovative performance as well as various incentive policies are very attractive. Haier was started in 1984 and grew fast over the past few years. Haier has become well known widely for quality products and reliable brands. This is why we come to visit. We share the same goal to become a world player. I hope that we can co-operate to approach our common destination."
On 25th March, Liu Yunshan, member of the Central Committee of the CPC Political Bureau and the Secretariat of the Central Committee and head of the Information Department of the CPC Central Committee, visited Haier Logistics Center and Haier UFO in Haier (Huangdao) Industrial Complex. Hearing Haier CEO Zhang Ruimin introduction to Haier UFO, Liu Yunshan iterated that Haier's theory, A Ball on Hillside, is an innovation to keep Haier go forward.
April 9, at a news conference, Shandong Economic and Trade Commission and Shandong Statistics Bureau announced 2003 Shandong 100 Leading Companies. Haier, SINOPEC Shengli Oil Field and Shandong Electric Power Company are top 3. Reportedly, it was the first survey of 100 leading industrial companies officially carried out in Shandong.
April 13, a press conference was held in Beijing Media Center for the event that Haier sponsored Melbourne Tigers, the first overseas basketball club crowned by a Chinese company. About 100 IT business people and sports journalists participated the event.
In April, HK-based Asia Capital winded up a survey and publicized a list, Asian Enterprise Reformer 50, outstanding executive officers of Asian companies, and Lee Kun Hee of Samsung, Carlos Ghosn of Nissan and Zhang Ruimin of Haier were on the top.
April 24, China Business held the Global Brand Competition Forum in Shenzhen and announced the result of the Survey of 238 Domestic and Overseas Brands in China. The survey result indicated that Haier and Microsoft, Wal-Mart and Coca Cola were included on the list.
May 2, Wu Guanzheng, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, visited Haier (Guizhou) together with Guizhou and Zunyi government officials and Haier CEO Zhang Ruimin. Wu praised Haier's achievements in marketing, product innovation, information and globalization.
May 4, Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, visited Haier International Logistics Center in Qingdao Economy and Technology Development Zone together with Shandong and Qingdao government officials. Haier CEO Zhang Ruimin met with the visiting guests and introduced Haier's management strategy in supply-chain and capital performance. "This is a landmark of contemporary business management as it will greatly reduce logistics costs of enterprises", said Li.
May 16, BBC World Service issued a report upon Haier CEO Zhang Ruimin, saying that "Twenty years ago it was an ailing refrigerator company. Now, one man has transformed the company into a huge household electronics group which is seeking to become China's first truly global brand. The man behind the corporate revolution is Haier's CEO Zhang Ruimin".
May, Fuji Films was exclusively authorized to show the CEO in January 2005 in Japan as a Happy-New-Year Film. The Film CEO is based upon Haier Story.
May, the 95th Concours Lépine International France was held in Paris. Haier won the gold medal for Haier dual-drive automatic washing machine, and silver medals for three patented technologies incorporated by Haier, network air conditioner, aircon oxygen generator and color TV auto shut-off function. GE, Siemens, Whirlpool and Thomson contended for the awards. Haier is the only home appliance manufacturer winner of the gold medal.
May 26, the result of the 18th Survey of Chinese Electronics Company 100 was announced and Haier, achieving annual revenue RMB80.6 billion, was ranked first in "Chinese Electronics Company 100".
May 28, Haier CEO Zhang Ruimin won the "World Executive Awards" at the World Executive Forum. The award is named after Robert A. Mundell, winner of the Nobel Prize for Economics 1999 and known as the father of the theory of optimum currency areas.
May 30, Haier was ranked first in the row of 2003 China's Most Respected Companies the third time.
June 3~6, the Wharton Global Alumni Forum 2004 was held in Shanghai, focusing on the theme CONNECT and receiving about 600 attendees of Wharton schoolfellow representatives, business leaders and college chancellors. Speeches on China's economic development were presented by Patrick Harker, principal of The Wharton School, GM Shanghai CEO Murphy and Haier CEO Zhang Ruimin, brining a "Brain Storm" on Chinese issues.

June 28, at the World Brand Summit and the Conference of China's 500 Most Valuable Brands held in Beijing Int'l Hotel, Haier brand, valued at RMB61.237 billion, was placed first on the list. The survey was the first event jointly carried out in China by the World Economic Forum and the World Brand Laboratory.

October, The Fortune named the 50 Most Powerful Woman in Business Outside the US and Haier President Yang Mianmian was ranked 8th. The Fortune believed that Yang Mianmian played a significant role in enhancing Haier's efficiency in management and manufacture, Haier's strategic development and transformation in the competition of the world marketplace, turning a small ailing factory into a multinational giant with global recognition.
October, Haier (Pakistan) obtained the ISO9001:2000 Certification, the first one given to a foreign brand home appliance manufacturer in Pakistan and Haier's overseas factory.
October 28, Haier (Zhangqiu) Industrial Complex was put into operation. In 1998, the former Zhangqiu Electromotor merged with Haier. Currently Haier (Zhangqiu) Electromotor Co., Ltd. has seen significant progress in business expansion.

November, China Quality Management Association for Electronics Industry (CQMAEI) launched a survey of outstanding electronic companies for quality management and announced the result. According to professional evaluations, Haier was given the Award of Special Recognition for Quality Management of Electronic Information Industry.
December 15, Beijing Brand Property Evaluation Co., Ltd., which had been engaged in research of China's most valuable brands for 10 years, released the 10th annual report in Beijing, and Haier, whose brand was valued at RMB61.6 billion, was ranked first in the row for 3 consecutive years.

January 14, The JobsDB.com.cn & CJOL launched the first survey of the 2004 China's The Most Respecting Employee Value Company and placed Haier on the list of 10.
January 19, the Economic Daily published the survey result of 2004 Top 10 News on China's Enterprises and the news on Haier for the event that "Haier was valued at RMB61.6 billion for 3 consecutive years and recognized as the only Chinese brand in the row of the World's Most Influential Brands" was included. "Haier is a representative of Chinese enterprises to exploit development opportunities by branding strategy", said the editorial.
January, three books, Haier in the Eyes of Haier Employees, Haier Story and Philosophy and Haier Road To Be Recognizable, edited by Haier Corporate Culture Center, was published through Qingdao Publishing House.
January 26, the CCTV broadcast a 3-minute news program, Haier Cultivates Innovative Mechanism for Global Recognizable Brand. Lv Peishi, general manager of Haier Washing Machine R&D, was taken as an example to show Haier's innovative mechanism. March 1, the opening ceremony of Haier (Middle East) Industrial Complex was held in Jordan. The plant covers a total area of 140,000 square meter and has 50,000 square meter production facility and annual production capacity of 1 million appliances.

In June, Fortune (Chinese) launched a survey of China’s Most Valuable Brands, the second public investigation by questionnaires since its 2004 survey event. Haier was ranked 6th in the row of the whole list and first in the row of 25 Chinese nominees. The top 5 places were shared by BMW, Software, Mercedes-Benz, Coca Cola and Intel.
