Haier UK officially launches its sponsorship of the children’s ‘Create It’ drawing wall at the Science Museum with a celebrity party

Science with the Stars

Haier, the world’s number one Major Appliances brand (source: Euromonitor International Limited; retail volume sales in units based on 2011 data*) officially launched its sponsorship of the children’s ‘Create It’ drawing wall at the Science Museum, London with its ‘Let Children Dream’ celebrity party.

Celebrities, mummy bloggers and their children joined Haier’s mascot E-Zy the robot at an exclusive party held at the Science Museum’s Launchpad gallery. Children and parents spent the morning taking part in fun, interactive science experiments that can be recreated at home and enjoyed ice-cream made with liquid nitrogen and fruit smoothies powered by their own cycling!

Mums and dads also had a chance to take a look at Haier’s latest products and discover how science is at the forefront of creating Haier’s innovative appliances including the MyZone fridge freezer and washing machines featuring the unique Anti-Bacterial Treatment (ABT™).

Science at the heart of Haier’s values

Haier is proud to be a sponsor of the Science Museum and to help the museum in its aim to be the ‘Best place in the world to enjoy science’. The partnership which started in July this year, runs for two years and during this time, Haier and the Science Museum will work together to engage young people in the science that shapes their lives.

For Haier, a global brand, looking to engage with middle class British families, working with the Science Museum is an ideal partnership. This venture forms an important step in Haier’s brand development in the UK and represents an opportunity to reach consumers who share Haier’s values and interest in innovation and design. Haier aims to target the UK market with innovative, high quality, design-oriented products and is particularly seeking to build brand awareness amongst young, design-conscious families.

Jeff Moody, Haier’s Sales and Marketing Director, UK & Ireland commented: “At Haier, we put science and innovation at the very heart of what we do and we are constantly investing in research and development to dream up new products that help households to run more easily. That's one reason why Haier is the world's leading home appliances brand and why we always talk about 'Inspired Living' solutions and this is why Haier has invested in the Science Museum for the next two years.”

Sponsorship of the children’s ‘Create It’ drawing wall

The focus of Haier’s sponsorship is the children’s ‘Create It’ drawing wall within Launchpad – a gallery dedicated to encouraging children and young people to explore science through 50 hands-on interactive exhibits.  After having been inspired by all the fun activities, children have the opportunity to be creative and inventive by drawing their ideas on cards provided by Haier and then display their drawings on the ‘Create It’ wall.

Jeff Moody explained to children and parents at the party that: “Haier’s goal is for everyone here to be inspired and use their imaginations to think about what the future could hold. The ‘Create It’ drawing wall encourages children to dream about things yet to be created and help them to understand how science can help create really innovative products.  Who knows; these drawings could one day become the blueprints of products that are seen in the aisles of high street shops.”

As part of its commitment to encouraging schoolchildren to engage with science, Haier recently commissioned a survey of children’s knowledge of inventors and scientists with some surprising results:

* 35% of five-year olds think Boris Johnson discovered gravity

* 22% of eight-year olds think Stephen Hawking is a hairdresser

Haier shares the Science Museum’s vision that science should be fun and creative and hopes that it can help to inspire British children to share this passion and get excited about practical science from a young age. The brand’s ambition through its partnership with the museum and sponsorship of the ‘Create It' drawing wall is to, ‘Through science, let children dream.’
