On October 23, Fisher & Paykel, a subsidiary of Haier Smart Home, inaugurated its new campus in Auckland. Featuring both Haier and Fisher & Paykel branding, the facility serves a dual role as Haier’s Australia-New Zealand (ANZ) regional headquarters and Fisher & Paykel’s global headquarters. The ceremony was attended by New Zealand's Minister of Finance, representatives from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in New Zealand and the Consulate General in Auckland, as wellas Li Huagang, Chairman and President of Haier Smart Home and other honored guest.

Dual Strategy: Premium Positioning and Globalization
During the ceremony, Li Huagang highlighted the campus as a catalyst for Fisher & Paykel’s premium global standing and an accelerator for Haier’s smart home expansion in the ANZ region. For Fisher & Paykel—a New Zealand heritage brand founded in 1934—the new campus focuses on home solutions and zero-carbon smart home R&D. This marks a shift from selling individual products to providing interconnected ecosystems and cutting-edge lifestyles.
Scenario Integration: Real-Life R&D
Spanning nearly 23,000 square meters, the campus integrates office space, scientific research, and design. A "Social Kitchen" sits between the office and R&D zones, allowing designers to observe daily pain points in a real-life setting and immediately validate new concepts.
The adjacent 5,000-square-meter, two-story R&D center houses acoustic labs, material analysis rooms, and rapid prototyping workshops. It features over 300 independent test stations, a semi-anechoic chamber with 600mm-thick sound-absorbing layers, and environmental chambers capable of simulating temperatures from 10°C to 43°C with up to 90% humidity.
Green Construction: A Low-Carbon Benchmark
The campus is an ecological landmark, built on remediated industrial land with a central wetland landscape. The design draws inspiration from volcanic geology and water forms, blending indigenous Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Māori culture with sustainable building techniques.
The main office building features a three-story heavy timber diagrid structure, which won the 2023 World Architecture Festival (WAFX) Award for Architectural Technology. Constructed using New Zealand plantation pine, the project achieved a carbon-positive impact of 1,089 tons of CO2 equivalent during the construction phase. Additionally, 1,159 rooftop solar panels cover the main building’s annual electricity needs, earning a gold award from the Sustainable Energy Association New Zealand.
Global Empowerment: Showing the Future of Globalization
By centering on whole-of-home connectivity and smart energy management, Fisher & Paykel is integrating domestic electricity and energy use into a unified smart home system. This serves as a primary model for Haier’s global smart home strategy—proving capabilities in the ANZ market to empower the brand worldwide.
This localized expertise is a vital component of Haier Smart Home’s global capability system. As the company synchronizes its R&D, manufacturing, and marketing across ten global regions, it is demonstrating a new level of maturity and possibility for Chinese enterprises on the global stage.
