The Story behind Haier's High Reputation
On Aug 14th, a journalist of Fortune China interviewed Haier CEO Zhang Ruimin in Haier and carried out a survey there. It is reported that Fortune China will launch the election of "China's Most Admired Companies" in this October. Haier has been among the top three of "China's Most Admired Companies" for three consecutive years; this time, the journalist is to explore the story behind Haier's high reputation.
The journalist interviewed Zhang Ruimin on strategic choices, global development, innovation and management mechanism of Haier. In term of global development, Zhang said, "The global development of Haier requires better integration of various resources, thus we need to establish networks for logistics, capital flows and information flow, which we are strengthening." In term of innovation, Zhang explained, "At present, the most important task is the innovation of business model. In the strategic stage of globalization, Haier should pay equal attention to the acceleration of the construction of informationization and the innovation of business model."
When asked "What's the difference between your work at present and that in 5 or 10 years ago?", Zhang Ruimin said, "It has transferred from solution of things to solution of flows. There are a lot of things happening everyday, now we cannot specifically study how to solve them one by one, instead, we intend to find out the flows that cause those problems and solve them thoroughly from the flows!" Zhang Ruimin also communicated with the journalist with respect to management innovations in terms of "1+1+N" talent guarantee system, supply upon demand at zero inventory, etc.
