Haier Group Lowered Flags to Half Mast
All Staff Mourned the Victims of Wenchuan Earthquake, Sichuan Province
The State Council announced its decision to name the three days from May 19 to May 21, 2008 as National Mourning Period for people of all nationalities of China to pay tribute to the victims of Wenchuan Earthquake, Sichuan.
At 14:28 on May 19, all of the production lines in Haier Group's business departments were suspended in operation for three minutes, and both managerial personnel and workers of production lines mourned for three minutes over the victims of Wenchuan Earthquake, Sichuan who lost their lives in this unprecedented disaster. Managerial personnel at the Haier Group Center Plaza, and Innovation Center, employees of Haier factories at Guizhou, Shunde and other places, and those working in industrial parks at Qingdao Development Zone, Jiaonan, Jiaozhou, Zhangqiu, Dalian, Hefei, Chongqing, Wuhan, etc, all stood in solemn silence. Marketing personnel at the industrial and trading stores also mourned at the scene of marketing.
Afterwards, Haier staff launched the campaign of "Donation to the Earthquake-stricken Region" once again. The money donated will be utilized in the reconstruction work of the disaster region through China Red Cross. When interviewed by a reporter from Qingdao TV, Haier CEO Zhang Ruimin said, "The catastrophe has united Chinese people much more closely as a whole. According to my personal point of view, I hold that our donation is not unilateral. On one hand, we donate to help the disaster area; on the other hand we are deeply moved and inspired by the strong will of the people who stand firm and fight in the disaster the scene of which can we see from the TV broadcasting. So we firmly believe that we will rally to make our enterprise more united and to further strengthen our competitiveness."
It is known that during the National Mourning Period, 15 Haier Industrial Parks located in the United States, Jordan, Pakistan and other countries, Haier overseas trading companies and factories lowered their flags to half mast for the occasion.
