Mr Zhang Ruimin Talks with the Jordanian King At 16:00 June 26th (Beijing Time), Mr Zhang Ruimin, chief executive officer of Haier Group, had a 5-minute conversation with the Jordanian King Abdullah II through a telecom satellite at the Tele-meeting Center of the Haier Headquarters. The King had just attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new office building of the Jordanian Ministry of Investment in Amman, capital of Jordan. In order to express his gratitude for Haier's investment in Jordan, the King wished to speak to the Haier CEO. The Jordanian Prime Minister, other high-ranking Jordanian officials and the Chinese Ambassador Mr Chen Yonglong were present at the meeting room. Mr Zhang first extended his greetings to the King. "Thank Your Majesty's great support to Haier's development in Jordan. Jordan has a stable political environment and an opening economy. Haier builds outlets and factories in your country in order to do our bit for your economic development and the friendship between the Chinese people and the Jordanian people, with 80% of the local-made products exported to nearby countries. We wish to do our bit for the development of Jordan and the Middle East." Abdullah II said, "Haier is an international company. I am grateful for Haier's investment in Jordan and its contributions to the Jordanian and Chinese economic development. Haier enjoys a good reputation in Jordan. I myself and the Jordanian Government will make efforts to create a good and steady environment for Haier's development in Jordan!" The King expressed that he would devote to the development of the bilateral relations and economic cooperation between the two countries. "This conversation through the media itself is a push for the development of trade relations between our two countries." The conversation wound up in a friendly atmosphere. "Xie Xie (Thanks)!" said the King at the end of the talk in fluent Chinese. It was reported that five major Jordanian media published reports on the conversation on the same day, which caused a sensation in the country. Haier Group has long been spending effort to develop the Jordanian market Early in December 2001, it established a trading company in Jordan, which covered many countries including Egypt,Palestine, Iraq, Kuwait and Lebanon. Now, Haier refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines and color TV sets are playing a significant role in the Jordanian market.
