Haier Bought a Landmark Building on Broadway, New York
Among many skyscrapers in the commercial downtown Manhattan, New York, the United States, and located at No. 1356 Broadway, New York, is a 77-year-old ancient Roman style architecture that stands majestically ¡ª the Greenwich Savings Bank's Building. It is a symbolic building of the New York, and is always the focus of Americans' attention.
To their surprise, on March 4, 2002, Americans found that this building had a new amazing name "The Haier Building". The eye-catching Haier flags and the Stars and the Stripes were fluttering in the sky. Six pieces of lengthy fabric stripes advertising Haier's products gave this symbolic building a new meaning.
It was a historic change. The searching eyes were aimed at its new host ¡ª Haier, a home appliances maker from the Chinese mainland, who will make this landmark into his headquarters in North America.
There was a large crowd on the square in front of the Haier Building on the evening March 4. The guests from around the world and reporters of more than 30 American mainstream media were delightedly waiting for the cutting ribbon ceremony.
At 18£º38, Haier Group CEO Zhang Ruimin announced solemnly "the Haier Building's opening-up and cutting ribbon ceremony begins!"
The enthusiastic hurrah and lasting applause told the world that Haier has taken a root in the US.
Also attending the ceremony were Zhang Hongxi, Chinese consul general in New York, Michael Jemal, President of Haier America Trading LLC, Frans Jamry, president of Haier Europe Tading, and Zhang Ruimin, CEO of Haier Group.
