The Haier Group and Sampo Group, two leading home appliance companies in Mainland China and Taiwan respectively, held a joint news conference in Hong Kong, on February 20th, announcing the formation of their business cooperation. A signing ceremony for a Partnership Agreement was also held. One objective of the cooperation is that both parties shall act as the agents for each other's brands. In addition to joining their forces to market their products through the networks on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, they will collaborate in the sectors of home appliances, IT and communications products, as well as related components and technology to complement both sides strength through OEM purchasing. The Haier Group president Yang Mianmian and Sampo Group general manager and CEO H. C. Ho attended the agreement signing ceremony.
"This is another materialization of Haier's multi-lateral competitive partnership strategy," Ms Yang said at the ceremony. "The January 8 agreement with Sanyo was also based on this thinking. On its go-international process, Haier will establish such a relationship with multi-internationals more to complement the partners' competitive advantages for mutual benefit."
Ho revealed that many electronics companies and consumer electronics group companies in Taiwan were urgently expecting to enter a partnership with the Hair Group. Ho took the reign of Sampo at the beginning of last November, and made his first visit to Haier at the yearend, when both sides identified with each other's resources and expressed their strong wishes to cooperate in this respect.
It was reported that scores of media in Taiwan and Hong Kong covered the news briefing and the agreement signing ceremony.
