Diamond Weekly carried an article on November 3 on a special interview with Mr. Zhan Ruimin, CEO of Haier, giving an introduction to Haier's internationalization progress, rebuilding of market chains and employment mechanism, which "revealed the business secrets that help the dream of the Chinese come true" by citing Haier's successes.
When asked about China's WTO entry, Mr. Zhang pointed out that after China's entry, more foreign enterprises would come to China and the Chinese enterprises would have free access to the international market, as such, the boundary between domestic and foreign businesses would disappear. Haier had foresaw this a few years before and set up three overseas factories. Its aim was to use Haier's internationalization resources to build an international Haier. Haier would not only expand export but also set up its own economic circle by establishing production bases and an international sales network.
The article gave due stress to the introduction to Haier's employment mechanism of "judging talents from competition". It commented that some Japanese businesses had failed in China always complained about Chinese employees' quality, but never thought of the problems in themselves. On the wall of its underground dining hall there was a leader evaluation board in which some of the leaders had low assessment marks, which impressed the Japanese visitors deeply.
The article held that the Japanese way of management had been regarded as a good example and enjoyed a good reputation all over the world. But now, it is high time for Japan to make a new start.
It is reported that the article caused a sensation in Japan. Many big appliance companies in Japan facing economic downturn wanted to use Haier's internal competition mechanism to better themselves.
