Haier Boulevard
¡öIt is an event of historical sense to both China and the U.S. that a boulevard named after a Chinese enterprise emerged in the United Sates:
On the afternoon of April 5, 2001, a celebration ceremony for Haier Blvd nomination was held in Campton, South Carolina. It is the only one road in the U.S. that is named after a Chinese enterprise. Haier CEO Mr. Zhang Ruimin, Chinese Counsellor to the U.S. Dai Yunlou, governors of South Carolina State and Kershaw County, important political figures in Campton and personage form local financial institutions and enterprises attended the ceremony. South Carolina State Senate held a big ceremony to welcome Mr. Zhang Ruimin and expressed their congratulations on the nomination of Hairer Blvd. Mayor of Campton presented Mr. Zhang the city's symbol --- golden key and the title of honorary citizen.
Haier (U.S.) Industrial Park covers 4 hectares of land and is the biggest overseas production base of Haier Group. Since March 2000 when Haier (U.S.) Industrial Park was put into refrigerator production officially, Haier refrigerators produced there became hot consumer goods and nearly 200 employment opportunities have been created for the locals. To reward Haier's contributions to local economic development, Kershaw County government decided to rename the Cooperation Blvd nearby Haier (U.S.) Industrial Park as Haier Blvd.
Mayor of Campton, Ms. Mary said in her address at the ceremony that " It is respectful that Haier manages to keep developing at high speed while many big local enterprises are laying off workers desperately. The thriving Haier (U.S) Industrial Park does not only contribute to local revenue, what's more important, it also creates considerable employment opportunities for the locals. Mayor Mary solemnly presented Mr. Zhang the city's symbol for success and wealth ---- golden key and the title of honorary citizen.
Mr. Steley, South Carolina mayor envoy and commerce minister, made such a comment in his speech at the ceremony: it is because of the famous Haier that South Carolina State is known better and better by Chinese people; Haier's contribution to the local place is great and far-reaching; now, almost everyone knows Haier as the symbol of high quality, and Haier is improving people's impression on Chinese products.
South Carolina State Senate attached much attention to the nomination ceremony of Haier Blvd and sincerely invited and introduced Mr. Zhang to all its senators. Mr. Zhang was warmly welcomed with great applause and all members rising up from seat as he, the prominent Chinese entrepreneur, walked into the meeting hall of the State Senate. In the United States, only the very famous personage will receive such high treatment as Mr. Zhang.
During his stay in the United States, Mr. Zhang delivered lectures on Haier's management at the invitation of Volton Commerce College and Columbia University. Once again, Mr. Zhang received warm welcome at the two colleges.
Under the new sign of the American Haier Blvd, Mr. Zhang offered interview happily to the local press and was quoted that "Haier Blvd symbolizes Chinese products growing up in the international market and being recognized by American consumers. It is the first road in the U.S. that is named after Chinese enterprise. More than that, Haier Blvd marks that Haier has achieved success in its localization strategy and won the recognition of local people and government. By establishing factories in the United States and other countries, Haier will not only market its products but also combine Haier spirits especially Chinese culture with local cultures.
