Haier Group Donating RMB 10 million to Build "Luchuan Haier Hope Middle School" -- Deputy Secretary of the CPC Qingdao Municipal Committee and Mayor Xia Geng, Haier CEO Zhang Ruimin and President Yang Mianmian Attending the Inauguration Ceremony of the "Reconstruction Committee of Luchuan Haier Hope Middle(Primary)School" An inauguration ceremony of the "Reconstruction Committee of Luchuan Haier Hope Middle(Primary)School" was held at Haier Headquarters on June 5, 2008, with Deputy Secretary of the CPC Qingdao Municipal Committee and Mayor Xia Geng, Deputy Mayor Zhang Yuanfu, Haier CEO Zhang Ruimin and President Yang Mianmian and other leaders attending the ceremony. Haier Group donates RMB 10 million to build the "Luchuan Haier Hope Middle School" in the hardest earthquake-hit Beichuan County, Sichuan Province. Lu stands for "Shandong Province" (where the headquarters of Haier Group is located"), Chuan represents "Beichuan", and the reconstruction of the Hope School is a firm proof of Haier's care for its fellowmen in the earthquake disaster areas. In his address at the ceremony, Haier CEO Zhang Ruimin said, "School campus rebuilding should be prioritized during the reconstruction process. The establishment of the "Reconstruction Committee of Luchuan Haier Hope Middle(Primary)School" aims at making campus reconstruction a regular dedication." Mayor of Qingdao Xia Geng sang high praise for the philanthropic act of Haier Group in his speech, saying that "Haier Group has set a perfect example for enterprises in Qingdao and the entire Shandong Province. In boldly taking up its social responsibilities, Haier has exhibited the ideal image of a giant enterprise!" After the speech, Mayor Xia Geng presented an honorary certificate to Haier Group for its great contribution to the disaster relief work. It is learnt that Haier will further donate RMB 7.5 million for the construction of 15 Hope Primary Schools after donating RMB10 million to build the "Luchuan Haier Hope Middle School". Up to now, Haier Group has donated to the earthquake-stricken area a total of RMB 38 million both in cash and in kind.
