Haier sponsors Melbourne Tiger ----Haier becomes first Chinese sponsor to name an overseas sports club Basketball fans were surprised when they saw "Haier", the trademark of Haier Group, on the polo shirts of the Melbourne Tiger's players in the match versus the Perth Wildcats on January 17, 2004. Haier sponsored Melbourne Tiger has been renamed Melbourne (Haier) Tiger. It is reported that Haier is China's first sponsor of an overseas sports club. Melbourne Tiger will take part in Australia NBL and some of the 2004 China Tour Competition. Andrew Gaze, world basketball star and captain of Australia National Basketball Team will help promote the sales of Haier products in China and Australia. Mr. John So, Mayor of Melbourne, is quoted as saying that, the naming sponsorship offered by Haier to Melbourne Tiger is a demonstration of China Haier's competitiveness and capability in overseas market.
