Haier CEO Zhang Ruimin Elected On February 14, 2003, the result of "2002 Chinese Top 10", a survey for the most respected Chinese citizens, conducted by CCTV Oriental Horizon program, was publicized and Haier CEO Zhang Ruimin was included and presented an award. The survey was carried out over the past 4 months under supervision of the Information Center, CCTV and 10 were chosen from 38 candidates based upon the poll of nationwide participating TV audience from all walks of society. Following is the remark presented by the Judging Committee of "2002 Chinese Top 10" for Mr. Zhang Ruimin at the ceremony. "He faces praises and commends and also queries and criticisms, but he never gives up striving to produce name products with innovation and creativity, cultivating Haier corporate philosophy with wisdom and ambition and achieving miracles of world recognition with his braveness and confidence." Comments of the judging committee for Mr. Zhang Ruimin Lu Xiaohua, director of Xinhua News Agency, is quoted as saying, "Mr. Zhang Ruimin is a hero of China in the era of globalization." Qiu Xiaohua, vice director of China Statistics Bureau, is quoted as saying that, "Development of China's economy and social prosperity need more people like Mr. Zhang Ruimin, then China will be able to play a significant role in the world economy and Chinese enterprises will succeed in the increasingly fierce world competition."
