Haier billboards Erected in Milan The Hair billboard unveiling ceremony started around 5:00 PM, December 12th 2001 in Milan, Italy. The billboards are located in the motorway near the Malpensa airport, Milan. Among the ceremony participants were Gao Shumao, consul general of Chinese Consulate in Milan, and Qing Chunying, counselor, the Varese government and Zhang Ruimin, CEO of the Haier Group, and Chai Yongsen, vice president of the Haier Group, Mr.Frans Jamry, president of Haier Europe Trading S.r.l, and the Haier Group's agents in the European countries. In his address to the ceremony, Mr. Gao Shumao said "Today, what the Hair Group has set up here is not only the billboard but also an image of Haier, an image of China". "We hope we have erected not only a billboard, but also a brand name which is recognized and welcomed by local consumers, and a brand name which satisfies end-users in every respect", said Mr. Zhang. Mr Zhang also accepted an interview by some Italian media including the 24 Hour Sun. On December 13th, Mr. Zhang attended a meeting of the Haier's agents in the European countries. In the meeting, Mr. Zhang heard the agents' business report and their future work plans. Mr Zhang expressed his appreciation over their work and achievements in promoting Haier's products on the European market. He requested them to feed back European consumers' requirements for differentiate products, and assured them Qingdao¨Cbased Haier would spare no effort to collaborate with them to this end. The Qingdao Haier and European Haier, as Mr. Zhang put it, should act like two arms of a man making a concerted effort to better serve and satisfy local consumers. On December 14, Mr. Zhang came to a PadovaI Haier plant in Italy. All staff members and workers in the plant expressed their welcome to their chief executive by hailing "Haier" at the same time. Among the welcoming crowd were the representative of the PadovaI provincial government, the president and vice president of the Galilei Science & Technology Society, and the chairman of the PadovaI Chamber of Commerce. Before his 100 Italian employee, Mr. Zhang expressed his pleasure in seeing the European members of the big Haier family. Then, he presented the "Innovation Star" reward to 4 staff members who, through their innovation and invention, had made contribution to the improvement of the product quality and work efficiency in the plant. Finally, Mr. Zhang expected the PadovaI plant would become one of Haier's important entities in the world, and positively play a central role in R&D, manufacture and marketing in Europe for the Group. Mr Zhang also hoped the factory to produce high quality and high value-added product and better satisfy local consumers' needs.
