"Haier is the best of the Chinese companies in the United States" "Haier is the best of the Chinese companies in the United States", said Mr Li Zhaoxing, the CPC Committee secretary and vice-minister of Ministry of Foreign Affairs (the former Chinese ambassador in the United States), at the Shandong Conference on Foreign Affairs. The conference was held on February 21st 2001 and Mr Li was invited to give a report on international affairs. When talking of China's impending entry into WTO, Mr Li said: "There are 550 Chinese companies in the United States. Among them, Haier's company in South Carolina is the best. The governor of South Carolina is very much thankful to Haier." Mr Li stressed that "this is a materialization of what the late Mr Deng Xiaoping said - development is the fundamental principle".
