Zhang Ruimin Proposes His "Tearing Down Walls"
At the invitation of the organizing committee of the "World Economic Forum", Mr Zhang Ruimin, CEO of Haier Group, attended the closing ceremony of the 2002 Chinese Enterprise Summit Meeting on April 20th. At the meeting, he delivered an important speech on the prospect of China's globalization. His "tearing down walls" theory won high appraises from the guests and representatives alike present at the meeting.
"Chinese enterprises must tear down two 'walls'. One is the 'wall' between enterprises and the other is the 'wall' between employees of an enterprise. In so doing, cut-throat competitions will become win-win co-operation and functional relation will become market relation."
"The future development of Chinese enterprises depends largely on what they choose to do today. No pains today, no gains tomorrow."
"If you let me predict the coming ten years, I'd rather hope that by 2010, we could see not only Chinese-made products around the world, but also Chinese brand products made by foreign companies."
Mr Zhang's excellent speech won warm applauses from the distinguished guests and representatives at the meeting. His remark on breaking one financial statement down to 30,000 ones drew the attention of four managers of large foreign enterprises. They took down the main points while listening carefully to Mr Zhang. Mr John Gage, CSO of the American SUN, regarded Haier's management methods as innovative and advanced. He summarized Mr Zhang's "tearing down walls" theory as "everyone is a company of a company".
Besides Mr Zhang Ruimin, the chief executive officer of Dow Corning, a world-famous chemical company, the governor of the Central Bank of the Philippines, the chief scientific officer of SUN, the chairman of international affairs of Accenture, another world¨Cknown consulting company, and the presidents of Legend and Southern Airlines, also took the floor. Mr Tian Shuoning, CEO of ChinaNet, said in his speech that Haier could serve as an example if an enterprise could represent the beginning of China's globalization. The globalization of Haier had a good lead over other Chinese enterprises.
